Public deliverables   2022/11/08

Executive Summary

The main objective of WP1 is to develop clear specifications for all industrial use cases with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders for each specific one. A second stage will setup clear requirements for the use cases and get a common understanding about the needs to establish the use case demonstrators and how the work will contribute to the fulfilment of the project objectives (this will be covered in Deliverable 1.2, requirements document for technical WPs based on use cases and evaluation criteria).

The evaluation of the project objectives will follow later in the project in WP1 and will be reported in further documents.

The current document is thus the first step and builds the basement for the project activities and guaranteeing the targets fulfilling. The Task 1.1.1 goal is to develop clear specifications for use cases with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders for single use cases (UC1 to UC6). The output of this task is the deliverable D1.1 “Specification of use cases”. These specifications will be used as inputs for other WPs.

For each use case (from UC1 to UC6), the objectives, the main targets, the functionality, the testing and test-bench specifications have been defined from high level perspectives paving the baseline for detailed requirements definition and the other future tasks and project activities:

- Use case 1 addresses electrification test systems. Hereby, three main topics are covered: flexible converters with reduced size and new power levels, Prognostic Health Management for power electronics in electrification testbeds, and testing equipment for automotive power electronics lifetime testing.

- Within UC2 the focus lies on the development of two innovative traction power inverters. On the one hand UC2a aims at developing a compact smart and modular electric drive system with improved fail operational features. On the other hand, UC2b aims at exploiting a mix of different promising technologies proposing the development of a novel powerstage based on GaN System on Chip (SoC) devices directly embedded into the powerstage PCB.

- UC3 focus is on a 48V traction inverter with GaN-Technology that will be developed. The overall goal of this inverter is to reach fastest switching speeds for highest inverter efficiencies.

- Within UC4 an efficient, reliable, reconfigurable, and highly integrated multi use DC charger will be realized and demonstrated based on modular wide bandgap Power Conversion Modules.

- In the framework of UC5, 3 sub uses cases are being developed, all dealing with EV charging. 2 solutions are dedicated on board chargers and one being a bi-directional off board DC charging solution for light vehicles.

- UC6 is dedicated to the application of a GaN-based DC/DC solar converter for solar electric vehicles. To maximize the number of kilometers a solar EV can drive per year, three factors are important: the available area on the car, the energy consumption of the car per km and the efficiency of the solar panel and its electronics. Later one is of special interest in this use case.
